Nigeria’s rising tennis star, Seun Ogunsakin, has continued his impressive run at the ongoing J200 U-18 Africa Regional Tennis Championships in Egypt, booking a place in the quarterfinals with another dominant display.
The 17-year-old delivered a composed and clinical performance against Algeria’s Yacine Meghari, sealing a convincing 6-1, 6-2 victory to progress into the last eight of the prestigious junior tournament.
Ogunsakin controlled proceedings from the outset, showcasing his powerful baseline game and consistency to outclass his opponent in straight sets.
His latest triumph follows an equally emphatic start to the competition.
In his opening match on Monday, Ogunsakin overwhelmed Zimbabwe’s Bryne Edwin Dube with a commanding 6-1, 6-0 win, underlining his intent to challenge strongly for another J200 title.
With back-to-back straight-set victories, the Nigerian youngster has dropped just three games in two matches, highlighting his form and confidence as the tournament progresses.
Ogunsakin will now shift focus to the quarterfinals, where he is set to battle for a place in the semifinals.
A victory in his next outing would move him one step closer to securing another major junior title on the African circuit.
Meanwhile, it was an early exit for fellow Nigerian player Ohunene Yakubu, who was unable to progress beyond the first round after losing her opening match of the tournament.
As the competition intensifies in Egypt, all eyes will be on Ogunsakin as he continues his quest for glory, carrying Nigeria’s hopes in the boys’ category at the continental championship.
