Ogunsakin started brightly, taking the opening set 6-4, but could not maintain the momentum as Chavez mounted a strong comeback to claim victory with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win.

The closely contested match highlighted the Nigerian’s resilience, even in defeat, against the world No. 29-ranked junior.

The result means Ogunsakin exits in the second round, adding to his growing experience on the international junior circuit.

Attention now shifts to the upcoming J500 Cairo (EGY 5 Smash Junior Tournament), also in Egypt, where Ogunsakin is expected to compete among a stronger field.

The tournament is scheduled to run from April 6 to April 11, 2026, with qualifying rounds beginning on April 4 and the main draw kicking off on April 6.

Despite the setback, Ogunsakin heads into the prestigious J500 event in good form, having recently reached a career-high junior ranking of No. 64 following his triumph at the J200 Africa Regional Championships in March.

The Cairo tournament presents another opportunity for the young Nigerian to test himself against some of the world’s best junior players and continue his steady rise on the ITF circuit.
