Ogun2025: Plateau’s Rachel Davou Builds Momentum, Experience in Cycling at National Sports Festival

Rachel Davou, a junior cyclist from Plateau State, is soaking in the experience at the 22nd National Sports Festival as one of the invited junior athletes. Caught during a road test session, Rachel spoke candidly about the journey so far.

“We just did a road test,” she shared, having been at the festival for nearly a week. “It has not been that easy but we just have to push on. And in this our competition, it’s just God’s grace.”

Though the terrain is tough and the competition stiffer than she’s used to, Rachel is not deterred. She’s met fellow young athletes from various states and acknowledges the level of talent around her:

“Yes, they are strong. We just manage ourselves and go together. But they are really good.”

With just over a year of experience in cycling, Rachel has already begun to make her mark.

“I’ve been cycling for a year and some months. I attended the Youth Games in Delta and Nasco competitions within Plateau.”

Her efforts have already yielded results, including a bronze medal at the Youth Games in Delta, as well as gold, silver, and bronze medals in local competitions in Plateau State.

Though she isn’t entering this festival with high expectations for podium finishes, she is focused on what matters most at this stage of her career—experience and growth.

“I’m not really expecting anything. It’s just the training I’m going to do.”

Rachel Davou may be early in her cycling journey, but her determination, discipline, and humility signal a promising future for the Plateau-born athlete.
