Lagos State’s weightlifting team was powered by a remarkable mother and daughter combination at the 22nd National Sports Festival in Abeokuta.
Ronke and Florence Olarinoye made headlines by winning multiple medals in their respective weight categories, inspiring sports fans across Nigeria.
Ronke Olarinoye, the experienced matriarch, grabbed gold in the women’s 45kg snatch event and a silver in the clean and jerk. Her daughter Florence, just 13 years old, matched the excitement by clinching silver medals in the 49kg and 59kg categories.
Together, they formed a unique and powerful duo that highlighted Lagos’ strength in the festival.
African Games champion Omolola Onome Didih also contributed to Lagos’ medal tally by winning gold medals in the women’s 55kg category, while Joy Chima secured two bronze medals in the same class, solidifying Lagos as a dominant force.
