Ogun2025: Adamma Dorcas Eyes Gold After Lifting Team Kano at National Sports Festival

As the 2024 National Sports Festival in Ogun State continues to spotlight emerging talents, one name rising from the weightlifting platform is Adamma Dorcas. Representing Team Kano, Dorcas secured two bronze medals in the women’s 49kg weightlifting category — a milestone she describes not as a destination, but a launchpad.

“I came prepared for the festival. Winning bronze will motivate me to aim and go higher,” she told the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF) media. “My target was the gold medal, but since I didn’t reach that, I’ll go back and train harder.”

Dorcas clinched her medals with a 71kg lift in the snatch and a 157kg total — performances that placed her among the top lifters in her category. Yet, her tone wasn’t one of contentment, but conviction.

“There’s no regret. This is a step toward greater success,” she said, crediting her coaches and the Kano State Weightlifting Association for their unwavering support. “Our coaches are wonderful. I can’t thank them enough.”

Dorcas’s drive and humility exemplify the spirit of the National Sports Festival — a platform that doesn’t just celebrate medals, but the passion and promise behind them. As Team Kano and Nigeria watch, Adamma Dorcas is not settling for bronze — she’s already lifting her sights higher.
