Ogun Football Coaches Charged to Embrace Continuous Education at State Meeting

The Nigeria Football Coaches Association, Ogun State Chapter, has reiterated the importance of continuous professional development for coaches across the state during its general meeting held on June 10, 2026, at Maale Stadium, Igbesa.

The meeting brought together more than 50 coaches representing all 20 local government areas of Ogun State, providing a platform to discuss the future of coaching development and football growth within the state.

The gathering came on the heels of the association’s maiden Coaches Leadership Summit, which was successfully staged in May at Babcock University under the theme “Igniting Greatness.” The summit was widely praised for its focus on leadership, personal development, and capacity building among football coaches.

Addressing members at the meeting, the Ogun State Chairman of the association, Victor Agbagu Damilola, emphasized the need for coaches to continually improve their knowledge and skills through structured educational programmes.

According to him, modern football is constantly evolving, making it essential for coaches to stay updated with current trends, methodologies, and best practices in player development and team management.

He highlighted several educational opportunities available to coaches within the state, including the association’s coaching certification programmes from Levels 1 to 3.

He also encouraged members to take advantage of the upcoming CAF D Coaching Course, which remains one of the foundational coaching qualifications recognized across African football.

In addition, participants were informed about various training opportunities offered through the National Institute for Sports, including its basic coaching programmes designed to enhance technical and tactical knowledge. He also added about all team across the state have started the league across all categories.

The chairman stressed that coaching education remains a vital component in developing quality football at the grassroots and elite levels, noting that well-trained coaches play a crucial role in nurturing future stars and improving the overall standard of the game.

The meeting concluded with renewed commitment from members to actively participate in educational programmes and contribute to the growth of football across Ogun State.

With increasing emphasis on coaching development and professional certification, the association believes Ogun State is well-positioned to produce a new generation of highly skilled coaches capable of making meaningful contributions to Nigerian football.
