In a show of national support, the event drew a powerful lineup of dignitaries:

Prince Dapo Abiodun, Governor of Ogun State;
Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission;
Hon. Bukola Olopade, Director General of the National Sports Commission; and
Hon. Adeyinka Adeboye, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Grassroots Sports Development.

Maikori, a key figure in the advancement of Nigeria’s digital economy and creative industry, described the moment as a turning point:

“This is not just a demonstration—it is a declaration. Esports belongs in our national conversation. Today, we step into the future of Nigerian sports, one powered by data, innovation, and the brilliance of our youth.”

Damilola Pedro, Chief Operating Officer of the EFN, echoed the President’s sentiments in a compelling address that highlighted esports’ economic promise

“The video game industry is already bigger than film and music combined, worth over $180 billion. With over 3.3 billion players globally and Nigeria forecast to be the third-largest gaming population by 2027, we are not just participating—we are leading.”

She called on the media, government, and private sector to partner in building an ecosystem that turns talent into global triumph.

“Esports is strategy, teamwork, discipline, and leadership. This is what the future of work looks like—and Nigeria is ready. We salute the bold vision of our leaders who made today possible.”

Pedro extended deep appreciation to the leadership of the National Sports Commission and the Presidency for giving esports this platform, noting that the EFN is committed to showcasing Nigeria on the world stage—including the Esports Olympics and World Cup.

With official support and rising public interest, Nigeria has taken a significant step toward integrating esports into its national development strategy, marking a new chapter in the country’s sports history
