Idowu Mistura of Lagos State made a bold statement in her quest to retain her boxing title at the ongoing 22nd National Sports Festival, tagged OGUN 2025.
In a fierce contest held at the indoor sports hall of Baptist Boys High School, Abeokuta, Mistura delivered a flurry of devastating punches that ended the bout in the first round, knocking out Rita Oyeleye of Borno State.\

The referee stopped the contest barely minutes into the opening round, as Mistura’s overwhelming aggression and precision on her opponent, which left the referee with no choice but to stop the fight.
There was a moments of tension in the arena just after the bout as medical personnel rushed to attend to Oyeleye as she lost her consciousness.
She was later revived and reported to be in stable condition while the medics continue to attend to her.
In a post post fight with Sports247 Mistura, who clinched gold at the last edition of the festival, says her commanding start is a pointer to his sole goal of retaining her title.
“I came here with one goal, to defend my title and prove I’m still the best in my weight class. I respect my opponents, but I won’t hold back in the ring,” Mistura said after the match.
The Bariga based boxer’s dominant performance has now set the tone for what promises to be an electrifying boxing tournament at OGUN 2025.
