Excitement is sweeping through the city of Abeokuta as residents gear up for the two-day Flag Football Demonstration scheduled for May 26 & 27, 2025, at the African Church Grammar School, North, Abeokuta, as part of the 22nd National Sports Festival – Gateway Games.
This isn’t just another sporting event — it’s a bold step into the future of Nigerian sports. From students to sports lovers, the anticipation is palpable.
Locals have expressed enthusiasm about discovering a sport that has captured global attention, but is still new to many in the country.
The demonstration, organized by Showtime Flag Football League in collaboration with NAFA, will feature eight states — Ogun, Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Kaduna, Enugu, Ondo, and Cross Rivers — in a thrilling two-day schedule packed with matches, youth showcases, and a vibrant fan atmosphere.
Adding even more excitement, Showtime has promised surprises for fans, including giveaways, games, and entertainment that will leave the crowd buzzing.
Azeez Amida, Chairman of the Showtime Flag Football League, expressed his pride in the movement:
“This moment is not just about flag football—it’s about redefining what’s possible in Nigerian sports. The energy in Abeokuta is already incredible, and we’re coming with a showcase that fans will never forget. This is a huge win for our players, our fans, and the future of the game.”
The event is being made possible thanks to the support of the National Sports Commission, under the capable leadership of Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade, whose vision and commitment to inclusive sports development made the demonstration possible.
Flag football is ready to make history — and Abeokuta is the perfect stage.
