Ogenyi Onazi plans Super Eagles camp visit to calm nerves ahead of crucial World Cup playoff

Former Nigeria star Ogenyi Onazi will visit the Super Eagles camp ahead of next month’s decisive World Cup playoff, in a bid to inspire calm and unity within the squad.

The 2013 AFCON winner admitted he understands the pressure surrounding Nigeria’s qualification push and wants to share his experience with the players, particularly goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, who has faced recent scrutiny.

“I know what the team is going through — this period is tense,” Onazi said. “They need composure, focus and togetherness to get through the playoffs.”

Ogenyi Onazi, who earned over 50 caps for Nigeria, said his visit is purely motivational, describing the current squad as talented but in need of mental balance ahead of their final hurdle.

“We’ve been in similar situations before,” he added. “If they keep their heads down and stay united, they’ll get Nigeria to the World Cup.”

The Super Eagles will learn their playoff opponent in the coming days as preparations intensify for what could define their 2026 FIFA World Cup dream.
