Lookman successfully completed his medical examinations at the Vithas–Invictum High-Performance Sports Medicine Center in Madrid before heading to the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, where the deal was finalised.
He was officially welcomed by Atlético Madrid CEO Miguel Ángel Gil, with contract documents signed at the club’s offices.
The winger joins Diego Simeone’s side following an outstanding spell in Italy, where he established himself as one of Europe’s most decisive forwards.
Lookman was instrumental in Atalanta’s historic 2023–24 UEFA Europa League triumph, scoring a memorable hat-trick in the final as the Bergamo club defeated Bayer Leverkusen 3–0 to claim their first-ever continental title.
During his time at Atalanta, Lookman made 137 appearances, scoring 55 goals and registering 27 assists across all competitions.
On the international stage, the former Leicester City and RB Leipzig forward has been a key figure for Nigeria since making his Super Eagles debut in March 2022.
He has since earned 41 caps, scoring 11 goals for the national team.
Lookman is expected to make his Atlético Madrid debut as early as Thursday, when Simeone’s side take on Real Betis in the Copa del Rey quarter-final.
