Ochebo Urges Female Handball Team To Win In Niamey

Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) president, Samuel Ocheho has urged the country’s female youth national team to ensure they return from Niamey, Niger Republic as winners of the upcoming International Handball Federation (IHF) Challenge Trophy.

Ochebo, who is an ex-international handball player, said he is happy that the players were chosen from the National Youth Games and an under-15 championships in 2018, which he believes makes them formidable.

Sports247.ng gathered further that the HFN boss also sees the present crop as the future of Nigerian female handball, and urged them to prove their potentials by emerging tops in Niamey.

He admitted that Nigeria’s male under-18 and under-20 handball teams have set high standards by qualifying for their respective global events, which he hopes the lasses will now replicate in Niger Republic.

Ocheho stressed: “My message to the girls is that they should go to Niger and have fun, returning with the trophy.

“It is difficult to have fun and come back with the trophy but that is what they have to do. The standard has been set so high.
“So, the expectation from these championships is that they go there and qualify and by qualification this means they must come first.
“I believe just like I told them that they are the ones that will redefined the face of female handball in Nigeria.
“They have to start setting the pace for female handball in Nigeria. They have seen their male counterpart qualify for the World Championships.
“The selection was easy because of the age grade tournaments last year, and we hope they do Nigeria proud.”
