Former Super Eagles defender, Godfrey Oboabona, has sent a passionate message to Nigeria’s national team ahead of their final two 2026 World Cup qualifiers, urging the players to unite and approach the matches with hunger and urgency.
Speaking during a media chat, Oboabona stressed that the time for excuses is over. “This is now or never,” he declared. “We’ve been given hope again after FIFA’s verdict, but that hope means nothing unless we fight for it.”

The former Rizespor and Sunshine Stars defender believes the team needs strong internal dialogue and leadership. “The players must talk to each other — heart to heart. They should remind themselves what it means to wear the green and white jersey,” he said.
He added that belief and togetherness will be key. “When we qualified for 2014, we were one family. That’s what I want to see again. Everyone must be hungry — from the coach to the bench players.”
Oboabona remains optimistic about Nigeria’s chances but warned against complacency. “South Africa and Benin will come hard. Lesotho are no pushovers. But Nigeria’s quality is there. We just need the right mentality.”
His message to the players was simple: “Fight for your pride and for the millions who believe in you. Some of you may never get another World Cup chance. Don’t waste it.”
