Organisers of the annual Obafemi Awolowo Memorial Football Championship have promised a hitch-free final this Sunday at Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, where matches will take place in both under-10 boys’ and under-17 girls’ categories.
Sports247 gathered that the competition, which is in its 12th edition, is in memory of legendary nationalist, Chief Obafemi Awolowo (male category) and his wife, Chief HID Awolowo (female), with N200,000 available for both winning teams.

Chairman of the organising committee, Ganiu Olawale said all necessary logistics, security precautions and festive formalities have been finalized to ensure that two colorful and memorable finals are staged.
While urging the finalists to give their best, Olawale disclosed that, aside the prize money, winners in each category will also go home with trophies, while runners-up get N150,000 and N100,000 for third place, as well as N50,000 for fourth.
Action will start at 1pm with the girls’ U17 final, as Super Master Queens of Ikorodu tango STM Dove Queens of Ojota; followed by the boys’ final, which will have Fortune Football Academy of Oshodi face Remo Stars U10.
Olawale stated, “The tournament is being sponsored by Obafemi Awolowo Foundation in memory of late Obafemi Awolowo and his wife for their contributions to social, economic and political development of the country.
“We are all looking forward to the exciting finals in both categories. All the finalists have done well on their way to the final and we want to see the teams that would win this year’s edition.
“On the part of the committee, we are good to go: because all the necessary things we need have been provided. So, we wish our invited guests from Lagos and Ogun safe journey to the venue and wish all the finalists best of luck.”
