The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has unveiled a significantly enhanced prize package of ₦24.5 million for the ongoing 2025 NWFL Premiership Super 6, reinforcing its commitment to the growth and professionalization of women’s football in the country.
The new structure offers increased financial incentives across the board, with all six participating clubs set to benefit.

The champions will earn ₦10 million—unchanged from the previous two editions—while the runners-up and third-placed teams will now take home ₦6 million and ₦4 million respectively, both reflecting a ₦1 million boost from last season.
In a major shift designed to support club sustainability, the bottom three teams will each receive ₦1.5 million, tripling last year’s ₦500,000 reward.
This, according to NWFL Chairperson Nkechi Obi, is a calculated step toward equity and long-term investment in the women’s game.
“This is a deliberate step to ensure that all clubs leave the NWFL Premiership Super 6 with something tangible,” said Obi.
“By increasing the financial rewards, especially for the bottom three, we’re reinforcing our commitment to professionalizing the women’s game and encouraging more investment at club level.”
Beyond the financial rewards, the competition’s stakes are higher than ever. The champions will not only lift the prestigious Super 6 trophy but also secure Nigeria’s sole ticket to the WAFU regional qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League—the gateway to Africa’s elite club competition.
With a path that could lead to the inaugural FIFA Women’s Club World Championship next year, the pressure and excitement are palpable.
Heading into the final matchday on Saturday, May 17, the title race remains wide open. Four clubs—Bayelsa Queens, defending champions Edo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, and high-flying debutants Remo Stars Ladies—are still firmly in contention for the crown.
The fierce competition reflects a growing parity in the league, with the past four editions each producing a different champion.
The 2025 NWFL Premiership Super 6 has been drawing nationwide attention, with all matches broadcast live on StarTimes and produced by Team 33, giving fans across Nigeria front-row access to the season’s most thrilling moments.
As the final whistle nears, one thing is clear: Nigerian women’s football is on the rise—stronger, better funded, and more competitive than ever.
