Players, coaches and officials of Bayelsa Queens FC may be heading home to meet a grand reception when they return to their base in Yenagoa, following their conquest of the 2025 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Super-6, Sports247 reports.
A hint in this direction was provided by the club’s coach, Ogbonda Whyte, who disclosed that everyone in the squad was elated by their heroic feat on Saturday and some of the accompanying officials informed them that they will be rewarded for making the state proud.

Ogbonda was equally excited after his side defeated Naija Ratels to clinch the title with ten points, ahead of second placed Nasarawa Amazons, who led the log heading into the NWFL Super-6 final matchday but were forced to a draw by last year’s winners, Edo Queens of Benin in the simultaneous game at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State.
The amiable coach disclosed, “I am very, very happy. I am happy as a coach and for being able to get this trophy for Bayelsa State. I must say I’m a happy coach for fulfilling my promise to the government when I was given the job.”
He went on to hail everyone connected to the club in Bayelsa State, especially his employers, whom he thanked for giving him total support and a free hand to guide the squad in the best way he thought possible.
Ogbonda stated further, “The Bayelsa State government made it very possible for me to work and get to where we are today. A lot was given to me to help me succeed. They gave me a free hand to do my job and directed that nobody should interfere. Any interference? I should let them know.
“So, the environment they created for me led to where we are today. They gave me everything I needed, and they gave the players everything they needed to enable them get to where we are today.”
Apart from expecting a grand reception when they return to Yenagoa, Ogbonda reckoned that he and the players would have to quickly get over the celebrations in order to start preparing for next season’s CAF Women’s Champions League’s West African zonal qualifiers, ahead of which he reckoned they may have to recruit some additional players to beef up the squad.
He added, “When we get back home, we’ll look at all the areas we have in the team and see where we can be able to bring in one or two new players to fortify the team … bearing in mind that we have to represent Nigeria in the West African zone and ensure that we qualify.
“After that, for the Champions League proper, which I’m sure we’ll be able to get to, we’ll try everything we can to bring the trophy back to Nigeria. That would help Nigeria to have two representatives for the next edition.”
Ogbonda concluded by acknowledging the possibility of rewards waiting for the team in Yenagoa, and he enthused: “As we go back to Bayelsa, I hear the state government is waiting for us, to receive the ream and the trophy.”
