NWFL: Sunshine Queens Pip Ibom Angels 1-0 In Akure

Sunshine Queens Football Club of Akure on Wednesday defeated Ibom Angels of Uyo in the matchday six of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) premiership match.

In the match played at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure could only produce only a goal in the encounter.

The only goal of the match had to come from Sunshine Queens midfielder, Mercy Idoko’s fine lob from outside the area in the 23rd minute of the encounter.

In the 33rd minute of the match, the visitor’s goalkeeper had to be on alert to save a fine lob from Sunshine Queens forward, Seun Fakunle for the match to end 1-0 into the half.

Both teams had to make changes for different aims in the second half, but the match ended 1-0 in favor of the home side.

The First Assistant Coach of Sunshine Queens, Niyi John praised his players in his post-match interview with newsmen for holding on to the one goal lead.

John said it was not easy to get three points and would continue to work on the team for improved results.

On his part, the Coach of the Ibom Angels, Morufu Adeyemo said he would work on his team

Adeyemo said the home side were fully prepared for the fixture and was disappointed not to pick a point in Akure.

“We are not where I want us to be yet, I will work on the team, especially the area we are deficient in,” he said.

Sunshine Queens now have 10 points from six matches and will visit Osogbo next to play Osun Babes on matchday seven.
