NWFL Sets November 26 Kick-Off Date as Port Harcourt Hosts 2025 Annual General Assembly

The 2025 Annual General Assembly (AGA) of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has officially set the tone for what promises to be a thrilling 2025/2026 Premiership season, with several landmark resolutions shaping the road ahead for women’s football in the country.

According to the season calendar unveiled during the assembly, the NWFL Premiership will kick off on November 26, 2025, and run through April 22, 2026. Teams will play four match weeks before heading into a Christmas break, with league action set to resume on January 7, 2026.

A total of 20 clubs will compete in the Premiership this season. In line with the league’s promotion and relegation format, six teams will drop to the lower tier at the end of the campaign, while two clubs will earn promotion from the Championship. Additionally, two teams will be relegated from the Championship to the NWFL Nationwide League.

The Assembly also reaffirmed key player eligibility rules, maintaining the age limit between 15 and 17 years, and stipulating that no club may register more than three underaged players in its squad.

In a move to strengthen financial accountability, all clubs are now required to submit an annual financial report at the end of the season — a decision lauded by stakeholders as a step toward enhanced transparency and professionalism.

The NWFL also announced the timeline for online registration ahead of the new campaign. The registration portal will open on November 14, 2025, and automatically close on November 22, 2025. To ensure a seamless process, video tutorials detailing registration steps will be distributed to all clubs before the portal opens.

This year’s AGA, hosted in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, marks another major stride in the professionalization and development of women’s football in Nigeria. With a clear calendar, strengthened regulations, and renewed commitment from stakeholders, anticipation is high for what could be the most competitive NWFL Premiership season yet.
