NWFL Championship: Naija Ratels, Adamawa Queens Players Dominate Team Of The Season

Five members of Bankole Olowookere’s winning side made the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Championship team of the season.

Naija Ratels romped to the Championship title-winning three games and drawing one against Adamawa. The victories came against Heartland Queens, Gallant Queens, and Kwara Ladies.

Joining them are three players from Adamawa Queens who came second on the log, with two wins and two draws, and have three players in the team of the season.

1. Onyechere Uchechi (Heartland Queens)- (GK)

Onyechere Uchechi was fantastic during the NWFL Championship season, though her team didn’t get promoted, expertly made some crucial saves in Abuja. She is believed to be one of the reasons Heartland Queens still remained in the Championship.

2. Godiya Sunday (Adamawa Queens) (RB).

A key cog in the wheel for Adamawa Queens and was given a license to roam through the defensive area. She helped the ‘Fintiri Ladies’ outnumbered opposing attackers. Her consistency is one that was key to the success of her team.

3. Chinyere Iheoma (Naija Ratels) (LB)

One of the ‘Ratels’ most consistent performers this season and contributed in an attacking sense with three assists. A trusted lieutenant of Bankole Olowookere, who has helped her settle well in Abuja since she arrived from Port Harcourt.

4. Folorunsho Aminat (Naija Ratels) (DM)

A gifted midfielder, who originally plays in the offensive midfield area, but made the team in a rather defensive position. She showed great prowess in the midfield, which made a lot of fans named her after the great Spanish midfielder Xavi Hernandez. As well as providing real bite in midfield, she won more than 33 tackles and assisted in goals and is regarded as one of the best box-to-box players in the whole of the NWFL.

5. Ali Paulina (Naija Ratels)- (CB)

A colossal figure in the defense line of Naija Ratels, who breeds a positive effect on those around her. She was brilliant at the back, the reason Naija Ratels conceded just a goal all through their four matches. Essentially, no other center-back can match Ali’s level of all-around defensive excellence.

6. Artetan Nguvan (Gallant Queens) – (CB)

Her composure and reading of the game caught the eye of many. Though her team conceded goals in the Championship, her style of play and dedication on the pitch was unique. She also scored a goal in their 3-0 win over Kwara Ladies.

7. Duru Marvelous (Adamawa Queens)

She scored the only hat-trick of the season against Kwara Ladies. A big presence whenever she is on the pitch and one of the favorite players all through the Championship season. Her pace from the wing and eyes for goals is one of her greatest strengths.

8. Emmanuel Blessing (Naija Ratels)- (AM)

Arguably one of the nominees for the best player in the 2021 NWFL Championship. She scored a brace against Kwara Ladies and did well to churn out the same high level of displays all through the season.

9. Bello Aminat (Naija Ratels) – (FW)

Aminat Bello maintained a high standard in the Championship season, netting two beautiful goals. She was a menace to the opposing team’s defense all through and played a key role in the success of the team. The versatile player who can pretty much anywhere in the attack has also been linked with many top clubs recently.

10. Wokocha Ezinne (Heartland Queens)- (MF)

She was great all through for Heartland Queens and showed some great signs of dedication. She made some good runnings, especially going upfront dangerously with the ball.

11. Chinyere George (Adamawa Queens)

Chinyere George scored twice against Heartland Queens in the opening game of the season and remained consistent all through the season. She was constantly a threat to many opposing defenders.
