NWFL 2023 Season: DFA Congratulates Delta Queens For Emerging Champions Of The Tourney, Commiserates BFA

The Delta state football Association (DFA) has congratulated the state female football team, Delta Queens of Asaba for winning the 2023 Nigeria Women’s Football League title after beating Bayelsa Queens at the final of the NWFL Super 6 playoff held at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on Sunday.

Two goals scored in the 67th minute and 86th minute by Delta Queens, Chinaza Agoh, ensured the Okowa babes sealed their victory to emerge the 2023 champions of the NWFL and also the right to represent the country in the West Africa Football Union WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifier which in turn will qualify them for the 3rd CAF Women’s Champions League competition.

In a statement signed by the chairman of the DFA, Honorable Ken Nwamuocha commended the inspiring performance of the young ladies and praised them for doing the state proud.
According to him, the victory is for the entire football fraternity in the state and a testimony that the state is blessed with gifted footballers.

The statement further commended the leadership of the Delta State Sports Commission for the massive support and nurturing of the young girls which has demonstrated the state government’s investment in grassroots sports.

Honorable Nwamucha also appealed to the league authority to nurture to stardom identified talents from the NWFL super 6 and commended them for the initiative.

Meanwhile, in a related sad development, the DFA has expressed support and condolences to the Bayelsa state football Association, the bereaved families, and the supporters who are still recovering from last Sunday’s tragic accident that claimed the lives of 4 members of the supporters club contingent who were on transit to Asaba.

Honorable Ken Nwamuocha, wrote in a letter sent to the BFA on Monday, that the ” DFA is saddened by the passing of four members of your supporter’s club and others injured in a tragic accident on Sunday”.

“Our Association wishes to extend our condolences to the families that the Delta State Football family share their pain. We would also appreciate your conveying the message to the families of the deceased, the Bayelsan Football fraternity, and the Bayelsan people our sincere condolences”.

“We want to take this opportunity on behalf of the football family, to comfort the families, friends, and football community. Their journey was cut short but their contribution will be remembered”.

“We hope our words of solidarity and support may bring you straight and peace in this time of bereavement “.

“May God grant the families the fortitude to bear the loss and may their souls rest in peace”.

The Bayelsa supporters club members were in transit to Asaba on Sunday to cheer their team to victory when the unfortunate incident occurred at Kwale near Asaba.
