NWFL 2022/23 : Heartland Queens Eyes Osun Babes’ NWFL Scalps

High fliers and buoyant Heartland Queens will be aiming for a glorious close on the first term campaign against visitors, Osun Babes.

The strange bedmates are going against each other in Wednesday’s end of the term NWFL Premiership matchday 7 clash at the homers’ hallowed chamber, Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.

Wednesday’s matchup will be the first ever in all competition meetings between both gladiators.

The Premier leaguers came close to first ever clash during the 2022 Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament (BOWFT) in Benin City when the sides were drawn in the same group but the rare opportunity fell on its belly as the Osogbo side did not show up for the high profile preseason showdown.

However, heading into the first ever league action with the Osogbo outfit, the Owerri landladies were truly in their best colours as the piped the Warri-based side, Royal Queens with one unreplied goal in Sapele while the Omoluabi Babes had 100% cooling having been drawn on bye from week 6 actions.

Of course, Heartland Queens will want to continue on their improved performances that saw them claimed two barren draws against former champions, Bayelsa Queens and Rivers Angels before the peak at Royal Queens by going all out for the jugulars of the Osogbo side aimed at ending the half on high.

For the Owerri side their precious asset, and unarguably the best goalie in the league, Uchechi Onyechere will keep her tab in goal same as bullish goal-getter, Lucky Mary, Chizoba Orji and one goal heroine, Chinwendu Orji in the cash out area.

Hard as nail defenders, Kelechi Orgii, Onyedikachi Ekezie and Victoria Bassey will provide the necessary coverage to detonate any offensive and unguarded missiles from the opposite.

Returnees and business-like midfield maestros, Favour Dagogo, Ezinne Wokocha and former junior international, Oluchi Ofoegbu will be getting the incisive and telepathic passes to the front players to hurt the opponents.

Of course, the Omoluabi Babes are not coming to the hospitality capital as fun seekers or picnickers but to contest for the available three points at stake in the game.

Clearly strugglers given their unimpressive sixth place on the seven-team group’s log and knowing how hurtful a return to Osogbo on empty hands will be to their dreams they are going to fight like Trojans but it waits to be seen how high riders and no nonsense Heartland Queens will respond to such threat on their hallowed ground.

Heartland Queens are on the ascendancy and no nonsense mood and will want to keep their climb out from the red line intact with another sumptuous victory that will make them instant contenders.

The battle will be fierce but the Owerri side need the winner as boost for the midterm break and prospect into the business end of the league.

Heartland Queens are fifth on the log on five points seven adrift the group’s leaders, Delta Queens.
