Edo Queens Football Club of Benin will this week Wednesday the 14th of December 2022, face FC Robo of Lagos in week 3 of the Nigeria Women Football League NWFL for 2022/23 season.
Edo Queens in week 1 of the new premiership season suffered 1-0 narrow defeat in the hands of Nasarawa Amazons of Lafia at the Ape Aku Stadium Makurdi Benue State.
On coming home the following week, Red-hot Benin City based ladies in week 2 match had a stunning 4-2 victory over Confluence Queens of Lokoja in a highly contested game at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Benin.
In the history of Nigeria Women Football League NWFL, Edo Queens and FC Robo are not new to each other, though for the past three consecutive premiership season, both teams have not had the opportunity of being in the some group in the abridged league, but they have confronted one another in crucial stages of either the Super 6, Aiteo Cup or privately organized pre- season cup tournaments with so much tension, anxiety, and pressure coming from both teams.
To show the rivalry nature of these two club sides since 2020 to date, Edo Queens FC and FC Robo have played each other a number of times in various competitions and both teams have done marvelously well given good account of themselves. Both teams have always fought themselves like wounded lionesses in national competition’s. The memories of the narrow defeat suffered by Edo Queens when they trail FC Robo 1-0 in the final match of the second edition of Betsy Obaseki pre- season Cup tournament held in Edo State few months ago can not be forgotten so easily. But be that as it may this is a new era and a new season.
For tomorrow’s match, Edo Queens is ready to show incredible determination and mental fortitude to come through at the end of regulation time. Surely it won’t be an easy task, because both teams parade quality and experienced players. They must also respect each other, fight hard like professionals to have their dream come through.
For the Lagos football fans, they believe both teams have quality, they also see Edo Queens as favourites for tomorrow’s cracker due to their quick acceptance by teeming fans when they landed Legacy Stadium for evening training session today. You will agree with me that Lagos fans are apostles of good football. They give supports to teams that can give them value for their time and resources coming to Stadium to watch them.
