NWFL 2022/23 : Edo Queens Go five Points Clear

Edo Queens Football Club of Benin-City moved five points clear at the top of Group B in the Nigeria Women Football League NWFL premiership with another entertaining away victory at the Gods’will Akpabio training pitch Uyo as the Moses Aduku-led squad humbled the host team Ibom Angels of 2-0

The visitors were cruising at 1-0 in the 30 minutes of play through a free kick taken by the prolific left footer and winger Rebecca Ajimuda beating Ibom Angels’ goal keeper Patience David to it.
Edo Queens held on for a long time as they increased the pressure on the host team not given them chance to play their muscle -like type of football.

Rebecca Ajimuda again settled Edo Queens nerves with a brace in the 39th minutes to put the visiting team side on a deserved 2-0 lead.
Yemisi Samuel, joy Jerry and Osaghae Glory were denied chances of scoring as Osaghae’s strike hit the wood works.

For Ibom Angels, they were a long way off the pace and could not put themselves together. The visitors did all they could to increase the tally, but Ibom Angels goal keeper Patience David showed great spirit by stopping Edo Queens mobile strikers from scoring more goals. But it is good to note that Edo Queens controlled the game for the majority of the time and had a lot of chances. It was a bit scrappy game. First half ended with Edo Queens leading the host team two goals to nil.

Both teams returned to the second half showing confidence, however it was a tumultuous second half as the game was more or less one sided following series of stoppages as Ibom Angels’ goal keeper kept falling down on the pitch. Edo Queens kept pressurizing them looking for the third goal.

The Benin-City based ladies performed excellently well. They really proved their superiority over their opponent. For them, it was like playing at the home.
With this second away victory, Edo Queens now have 12 points from five games, also now five points clear, while Nasarawa Amazons and Abia Angels have 7 points each. Edo Queens are on top of the log in Group B.
Red-hot Edo Queens will now host Abia Angels next week Wednesday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Benin City for match day 6.

Speaking immediately after the game head coach of Edo Queens FC Moses Aduku, commended the players for their excellent performance, adding that he believes in taking one game at a time.

“Well we thank God for this victory, it can only be God. It was a good outing for us, we had our chances and took them. I know we were coming to face tough challenge because for a team to loose at home means that they would come into their next home game with vigour and determination. So I actually expected a tough game.”

“This is just the fifth game of the new season, it is not enough to write off any side, for Ibom Angels, they also tried. They are not a push over side they gave us a good fight. Now that this match has come and gone, we are going back to our base to prepare for the next game. I left Bayelsa State for Edo because I wanted a new challenge. My dream is to take Edo Queens to the stage where I took Bayelsa Queens. I want to achieve results, so we are working very hard to ensure we meet our target.”
