The boxing arena of the 27th Nigeria University Games (NUGA) in Jos pulsed with intensity on November 13, 2025, as the nation’s best collegiate fighters stepped into the ring for a decisive final day of action.
Hosted by the University of Jos, the event produced a blend of walkovers, tactical masterclasses, hard-fought duels and standout individual performances.

The day opened with a series of walkover victories.
In the female 48kg category, OAU’s Fagbola Fatihia claimed the title uncontested, while OOU’s Asiru Basit secured the male 54kg crown in similar fashion. LASUED’s Enitan Yisa also advanced without opposition in the female 57kg class.
The competition intensified with the female 57kg final, where OOU’s Odunbaku Joky delivered a commanding 5–0 win over LASU’s Jojo Christopher.
The female 60kg bout followed suit with another engaging contest, as UNILAG’s Ifeoluwa Oseni edged past Rianat Adebayo of FUOYE in a 4–1 decision.
Walkovers continued in the male 60kg category, with LAUTECH’s Habeebullahi Faosy taking the title.
LASU’s Disu Haleemot recorded an A.B.U stoppage in the female 63kg final, while OAU’s Olowosoga Segun advanced in the 63.5kg male division after a walkover win over UNIJOS’ Nentong Victor.
OOU’s Kausara Olaifa impressed in the female 66kg event with a confident 4–1 victory.
In the male 67kg category, AAU’s Olurotimi Emmanuel defeated UNIJOS’ Williams Oche via R.S.C stoppage.
The 71kg male final delivered one of the tensest duels of the day, with LASU’s Lawal Opeyemi narrowly edging FATMINNA’s Amupitan Gbenga.
The closely contested theme continued in the 75kg male division, where LASU’s Abdullah Ibrahim claimed a hard-earned victory over UNIJOS’ Jeremiah Ishiaku.
In the male 80kg bout, UNIJOS’ Samson Pere powered past FUTO’s Egbu David via R.S.C to clinch gold.
UNILAG’s Miracle Adeshina secured the female +80kg title through a walkover.
A standout performance came from UNIJOS’ Badung Shalom in the 86kg male final, where he dominated LAUTECH’s Oladepo Darasimi with an emphatic 5–0 result.
Rounding off the programme, LASU’s Alade Gideon claimed the +92kg male crown via walkover.
The conclusion of the boxing finals capped an intense, colourful and highly competitive outing in Jos, reflecting the rising depth of talent across Nigerian universities.
With several athletes showing promise, the 2025 NUGA Games may well have unveiled the next generation of national and international boxing prospects.
