NSC’s Director-general Bukola Olopade Expresses Confidence In Nigeria’s Bid To Host 2030 Commonwealth Games

The director-general of Nigeria’s National Sports Commission (NSC), Honourable Bukola Olopade has expressed a strong level of confidence in the country’s ability to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, Sports247 reports.

While many Nigerians are sceptical of the nation’s economic, logistical and infrastructure capabilities for staging the multi-sports event that will have more than 100 countries in attendance, Olopade insisted it will be possible.

The smooth-talking administrator, who is fondly called ‘DG,’ urged all citizens, sports stakeholders, corporate sector and media to rally round the federal government in order to ensure everything goes well for Nigeria to set a record for Africa.

Olopade stated, “Do we have the passion? Do we have the enthusiasm as a people? That is reflected in what the media is already doing. Africa has never hosted these Games, and this will be the Centenary edition … 100 years of the Commonwealth Games.”

The NSC’s top shot concluded by stressing that a major factor is that the Commonwealth Sport Bid Evaluation Committee, which recently visited Abuja to formally receive Nigeria’s interest and check the facilities on ground, must note the need to carry Africa along and respect the continent’s interests in the scheme of things.

“It’s high time the Commonwealth Games came to Africa. It’s also high time the organisers understand that inclusivity simply means taking it all over the world.

“So, forget about what has happened in the past and be focused on the future. I have no doubt that we will win this bid,” Olopade ended with an affirmative assurance
