The National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced plans to conduct an inspection of sports facilities in Enugu State from October 21 to 24, 2025, as part of preparations for the 23rd National Sports Festival, tagged “Coal City Games 2026.”
According to the Commission, the inspection exercise is a key step in ensuring that all facilities meet the required standards for hosting a world-class sporting event that promotes excellence, unity, and talent development across Nigeria.

The inspection team will assess existing infrastructure, monitor the progress of ongoing upgrades, and engage with local stakeholders to confirm Enugu’s readiness to host athletes and spectators from across the country.
In a statement, the NSC commended the Enugu State Government for its commitment and support toward the successful hosting of the Festival, describing the collaboration as a reflection of the true spirit of partnership needed to advance sports development in Nigeria.
“The National Sports Festival remains Nigeria’s premier multi-sport event, serving as a breeding ground for champions and a symbol of national unity,” the statement read.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with Enugu State to deliver a memorable and impactful edition of the Games, one that will inspire the nation and leave a lasting legacy in the Coal City.
