NSC Steps Up Efforts To Host International Events, Takes Closer Look At Improved Sports Facilities

Nigeria’s National Sports Commission (NSC) has stepped up its efforts to ensure that the country hosts some international events this year, with more attention coming for maintenance of infrastructure, Sports247 reports.

An assurance in this regard was provided by the NSC’s director-general, Honourable Bukola Olopade, who admitted that extra impetus must be given to installation, renovation and maintenance of Nigeria’s sports facilities.

The deeply amiable ‘DG’ admitted that he was impressed with the high-quality facilities on offer in Morocco during the recent Africa Cup of Nations and believes the same can be done in Nigeria.

With the country still hoping to host the Commonwealth Games as well as AFCON 2028, and other events already confirmed for this year, Olopade acknowledged the need for facilities of better standard across the federation.

“We have said that the productive angle of sports must be seen from the prism of us being able to attract major events of international nature.

“It simply means the issue of infrastructure that people have been harping on has to be faced. We have to be aggressive about it,” Olopade conceded.

He concluded with an affirmation that putting Nigeria’s facilities in better shape will not only encourage more people to get involved in sports, but it would also boost the country’s image.

“So, from the point of view of the NSC and the country as a whole, we must go out now and fix our facilities – not only for football, but in all other sports as well,” Olopade submitted.
