Nigeria’s National Sports Commission (NSC) has commenced a process that will bring about the advent of a third level competition with multiple events in the country, Sports247 reports.
This much was disclosed by NSC Director-General, Bukola Olopade, who said the introduction of National Intermediate Games was one of the issues discussed during this year’s National Council On Sports conference in Calabar, Cross River State.

While also revealing that the number of events to be competed at the National Sports Festival will be reduced in order to cut costs for the hosts and states participating from across the country, Olopade enthused that the new competition will augment the National Youth Games.
He added, “I’m excited about every decision that has been taken at this conference. For example, the reduction of events at the National Sports Festival is a good idea.
“It will help us create a more affordable hosting environment and ease the cost of attendance by all states. We cannot continue to make states suffer just because we want to unite Nigeria through sports.
“I like how we have succeeded in cutting the list of sports events, which would drastically reduce the number of athletes that each state would register from about 15,000 to just 7,000 at each edition.”
He then threw more light on the impending arrival of a gathering that would form a bridge between the Youth Games and National Sports Festival, all of which he pointed out fit into the scope of the NSC’s Renewed Hope Initiative For Nigeria’s Sports Economy (RHINSE).
“We have approved the National Intermediate Games, which keys further into our focus on sports development, alongside the National Youth Games.
“It shows that every decision made at this conference is good, exciting, and point towards the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It also states what our RHINSE policy is all about.
“I believe, with this technical session, we have finally explained the RHINSE Agenda fully to the clear understanding of all stakeholders in Nigeria’s sports sector,” Olopade submitted.
