NSC Sends Nigeria’s Boxing Team Off With Goodwill Message To Inaugural African Elite Championship In Kenya

Nigeria’s National Sports Commission (NSC) has sent forth the country’s boxing team with a morale boosting goodwill message to Africa’s first elite amateur championship billed to begin this Friday in Nairobi, Kenya.

Sports247 reports that the message, which was issued by NSC director-general, Honourable Bukola Olopade’s special assistant media, Kola Daniel, came on the eve of the departure of 10 Nigerian pugilists to the inaugural African Boxing Elite Championship.

Daniel disclosed that the Nigerian contingent will feature boxers competing in 10 weight categories, comprising five male and five females, as the country seeks to make a strong impression at the continental championship.

Aside from the ten boxers who are billed to feature in the competition that will end on October 28th, a total of 19 delegates will be in the country’s contingent travelling out on Tuesday for the competition, which Daniel described as a symbolic development.

He explained that the depth of Nigeria’s team to the inaugural elite championship reflects the country’s untiring commitment towards promoting elite boxing and strengthening the nation’s presence on the continental stage.

Daniel added, “The competition will provide an important platform for Nigeria’s elite boxers to test their abilities against some of the continent’s best, gain valuable international experience and demonstrate the depth of Nigerian boxing talent.

“The National Sports Commission wishes the team a successful outing and urges the athletes to uphold the country’s reputation for competitiveness, discipline and excellence as they represent the nation in Kenya.”
