NSC DG Commends Lagos Government For Hosting First-Ever E1 Electric Boat Racing Championship In Africa

The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, has commended the Lagos State Government for transforming the state into a global sports hub following its successful hosting of the E1 Electric Boat Racing Championship over the weekend.

The event, which took place in Lagos, marked the first-ever E1 Boat Racing Championship held in Africa, positioning the city alongside world-class destinations such as Monaco (France), London (United Kingdom), Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), and Venice (Italy) — all of which have previously hosted the prestigious competition.

Hon. Olopade described the achievement as a milestone in Nigeria’s sports development and praised the Lagos State Government under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for its visionary and dynamic leadership.

“Lagos State is truly setting the pace and living up to its status as Nigeria’s foremost commercial city in sports development,” Olopade said. “Governor Sanwo-Olu must be commended for his forward-thinking leadership and strong commitment to advancing sports at all levels.”

He added that the state’s successful hosting of the E1 Championship is the latest in a growing list of major international sporting events held in Lagos this year, including the Access Bank Lagos International Marathon, the Lagos International Badminton Classic, and the ‘Chaos in the Ring’ boxing event.

Hon. Olopade further emphasized that the National Sports Commission remains fully committed to supporting states across the federation in promoting sports as a tool for economic and social growth.

“The Commission is aligned with the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to build a sustainable sports economy,” he said. “Attracting international sporting events to Nigeria is a key part of that mandate, and Lagos State has shown strong leadership in that direction.
