NPFL19/20 REVIEW: PLATEAU SLIP, AKWA RISE AS NPFL ROUNDS-UP FOR THE YEAR 2019

While we await the New Year to kick-off in Lagos with MFM and Nasarawa, the league ended 2019 with lots of drama and interesting results on match day 11 as the league leaders drop points and relegation battle toughen up at the bottom.

Starting from Umuahia where league leaders, Plateau United were condemned to a 3 nil demolishing by Abia Warriors, Abdu Maikaba and his lads definitely had a tough one and could not redeem themselves all through 90 minutes as the host took all opportunities to hand the visitors their second defeat of the season.

However, Lobi Stars could not take advantage to catch up with Plateau United as they fell to a 1-0 loss to Akwa United in Uyo. In a tactical battle between Boboye and Ogunbote, it was cagey affair but for an Arakandut Orok’s strike in the 51st minute that handed the Promise Keepers all three points.

In Akure, it was a strike at the death of time that rescued Sunshine stars against Dakkada FC. The visitors had taken the lead through Femi Ajayi only for Fuad Ekelojuoti to equalize at the 95th minute to make sure the spoils are shared.
Elsewhere, Rivers United got a 2-0 victory at Gombe against Adamawa United. Getting three points away from home is an impressive one for the Port Harcourt boys as they move up to third on the log.

Despite Plateau United and Lobi Stars losing their games, they both still sit first and second respectively on the NPFL log with three points separating both sides, Abia Warriors complete the top four as Akwa United rise to eighth.
