Warri Wolves’ preparations for their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Week 4 clash with Elkanemi Warriors suffered a major setback on Thursday after the team was left stranded in Otukpo, Benue State, following multiple bus breakdowns.
The team, who departed for Maiduguri earlier in the week, initially boarded a bus provided by the State Sports Commission.

However, the vehicle broke down at Ibusa, Delta State, forcing officials to arrange for their original bus from Asaba to continue the journey.
Barely five minutes after setting out again, the replacement bus also developed faults, leaving players and officials stranded for five hours while mechanics attempted repairs.
When temporary fixes were completed, the journey resumed but the bus broke down once more this time in Otukpa, leaving the squad to find their way into Otukpo town, where they remain at the time of this report.
The repeated breakdowns have raised serious concerns about the welfare and safety of the players, as well as the broader logistical challenges facing clubs in the NPFL.
Observers argue that inadequate planning and poor transport support continue to hinder the league’s growth, with players often paying the price for systemic shortcomings.
Calls are mounting for authorities to step in and ensure that clubs are provided with safe and reliable travel arrangements, allowing players to focus solely on performance rather than off-field struggles.
Warri Wolves, who gained promotion from the Nigeria National League (NNL) last season, currently sit on seven points after three matches in the ongoing NPFL campaign.
With their Week 4 tie against Elkanemi Warriors fast approaching, the club will be hoping the disruptions do not overshadow their on-field ambitions.
