NPFL: Rivers United Record Another Away Win, Move Joint-Top on the Log

Rivers United continued their remarkable charge in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Thursday, securing another vital away victory to move joint-top of the standings after a hard-fought 2–1 comeback win against Plateau United in Jos.

The Pride of Rivers entered the encounter in strong form, unbeaten in their last seven league matches, but their momentum suffered an early setback when Plateau United took the lead in the 20th minute.

Silas Nenrot capitalised on a defensive opening to slot home and hand the hosts a promising start against Finidi George’s well-drilled side.

Despite going behind, Rivers United maintained composure and gradually settled into their rhythm.

Their improved second-half intensity paid off quickly as Boluwaji Sholumade found the equaliser just seven minutes after the restart, finishing off a sweeping move that shifted the momentum firmly in favour of the visitors.

With both sides pushing for a decisive goal, the contest appeared to be heading for a draw.

However, Rivers United produced a late moment of brilliance to claim all three points, sealing their second away win of the season and extending Plateau United’s struggles with a 10th league defeat.

The result lifts Rivers United to 30 points from 15 matches, level with Nasarawa United at the top of the table.

Crucially, Finidi George’s men still have a game in hand, and a victory in that fixture would send them clear at the summit.

The win also reinforces Rivers United’s dominance on the road this season.

They have now amassed 11 away points, more than any other team in the 2025/26 NPFL campaign, and remain the only unbeaten away side, boasting two wins and five draws from seven matches.

Rivers United will next welcome Wikki Tourists on Sunday, while Plateau United face another stern challenge against table-toppers Nasarawa United.
