Remo Stars returned to winning ways on Wednesday with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Kano Pillars, further deepening the visitors’ struggles in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Playing at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, the reigning champions showed renewed purpose after their setback against Enugu Rangers.

Their breakthrough came in the 34th minute when Victor Mbaoma rose highest to nod home the decisive goal, capping a dominant first-half display from the Sky-Blue Stars.
After the interval, Remo Stars pushed relentlessly for a second goal, carving out several promising chances but failing to apply the finishing touch.
That left the door slightly ajar for Kano Pillars, who almost equalised through veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali.
His thunderous freekick was tipped onto the crossbar by goalkeeper Emmanuel Olisa in what proved to be Pillars’ closest moment of the match.
Despite some late saves from goalkeeper Okeke Abuchi, who kept the deficit at one by denying substitute Samson Olasupo on multiple occasions, Kano Pillars continued to struggle in attack.
Their inability to create sustained scoring opportunities once again highlighted the issues that have derailed their campaign.
The victory lifted Remo Stars to 15 position on the log gathering 16 points from 12 matches as they have an outstanding game away to Shooting Stars.
The defeat leaves Pillars firmly at the foot of the NPFL table with just six points from 13 matches. Even more worrying is their away record — seven losses in seven road games this season.
