NPFL: Rangers Go Top as Alex Oweilayefa Hat-trick Destroys Ikorodu City as Matchday 28 Concludes

Enugu Rangers moved to the summit of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) standings after a convincing home win, while Bendel Insurance produced the most dominant performance of the weekend with a four-goal demolition of Ikorodu City.

At the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Bendel Insurance ran riot against Ikorodu City, cruising to a 4–0 victory that underlined their growing momentum in the league.

Alex Oweilayefa was the standout performer, firing a superb hat-trick with goals in the 15th, 27th and 59th minutes. Wisdom Udom added the fourth in the 24th minute to complete a ruthless display by the Benin Arsenal, who barely gave their visitors any breathing space.

In Enugu, Enugu Rangers continued their impressive run with a comfortable 2–0 win over Nasarawa United. Godwin Obaje broke the deadlock in the 18th minute before Chidiebere Nwobodo doubled the advantage just eight minutes later.

The result lifted the Flying Antelopes to the top of the NPFL table with 47 points from 28 matches, edging ahead of Rivers United and Ikorodu City.

Elsewhere, Remo Stars boosted their survival push with a 2–0 home victory over Katsina United in Ikenne. Haruna Hadi struck twice in quick succession in the 60th and 62nd minutes to seal all three points for the Sky Blue Stars.

At the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Niger Tornadoes and Warri Wolves played out a goalless draw, while Bayelsa United edged Rivers United 1–0 thanks to an early own goal by Temple Emekayi in the 13th minute.

In Aba, Enyimba were held to a 1–1 draw by Kun Khalifat. James Ekebuike put the visitors ahead in the 38th minute before Ekene Awazie salvaged a point late on for the People’s Elephant.

Shooting Stars returned to winning ways in Ibadan with a 2–1 victory over Kano Pillars. Sodiq Ibrahim and Qamar Adegoke scored for the Oluyole Warriors, while Mustapha Jibrin pulled one back for Pillars.

In other matches, El-Kanemi Warriors defeated Abia Warriors 2–0, with Daddy Abdulrahman converting from the penalty spot before Bashir Musa sealed the win late on.

Kwara United also secured a narrow 1–0 victory over Wikki Tourists, courtesy of Akeem Akanni’s 15th-minute strike.

The latest round of fixtures has further tightened the race at both ends of the NPFL table, with Rangers now leading on 47 points, just one ahead of Rivers United, while the battle for survival remains fiercely contested as the season enters a decisive phase.
