NPFL: Rangers 0-1 Rivers United: Aguda Score As Agbekpornu And Afelokai Shine In Cathedral Win

By Charles Mayuku, Media Officer Rivers United FC

Godwin Aguda benefitted from Nelson Esor’s tantalizing cross after a brilliant run to score the only goal of the NPFL matchday 21 ties in Enugu.

Having provided the assist for Fortune Omoniwari to score the only goal in the reverse fixture on matchday one, Aguda netted this time to set Rivers United on the way to a hard-earned three points.

This goal owed more to replicating what was done on the training ground, as he stroked home from Nelson Esor’s pass, after Rangers goalkeeper Seidu Mutawakilu had no chance to intercept.

For much of the rest of the game, it was about resolute keeping to the game plan, right from the front back to United’s four-man defense with Desmond Agbekpornu shinning like a diamond in front of the defense line.

The hosts did pin Stanley Eguma’s men back for the most part of the second half, and it took the brilliance of shot-stopper Theophilus Afelokai late on to keep the scoreline in favor of the “Pride of Rivers”.

Rivers United were rewarded for an excellent attacking and defensive effort with a 1-0 win, securing a double over Rangers International this season
