NPFL: Olaleken Gabriel Keeps His Word, Drives MFM FC To Finish In Top Half Of The League

A good number of weeks, 38 games played each and the Nigeria Professional Football League has come to a beautiful end with Akwa United, The Promise Keepers, emerging as champions of the League with one game to spare, the first time winning the NPFL in their history.

Enyimba FC as well as Kwara United completed the top three with MFM FC finishing in 10th place with 58 points, a decent position compared to where they were mid season and before.

MFM suffered huge crisis on and off the pitch with affected the on-field performances and saw the team battling with relegation going almost halfway into the league, leading to the sacking of former coach, Tony Bolus and Olalekan Gabriel who has been in the system for a while replacing him.

The coach shared his excitement at finishing strong in the league which was his primary goal after taking over. “I’m grateful and thanking you all for all your support towards me, the coaching crew, the players, the officials and the management of MFM FC,” the coach told Sports247.

The coach who won his first game in charge of the Olukoya Boys, told Sports247 after the game that the team will not relegate or have reasons to worry about relegation when the season ends and he has been true to his word, winning his first game and last of the season with the team 8 points clear of the drop zone.

“We started the league and we end it in victory to d glory of God. Up MFMFC Up DK D.K OLUKOYA Up God of YAWEH,” he said.

Nasarawa United, Kano Pillars, Rivers United, Rangers Int’l, Lobi stars and Plateau United complete the top half of the league with Jigawa Golden Stars, Warri Wolves, Ifeanyi Ubah and Adamawa United going into relegation.
