Plateau United Technical Adviser, Gbenga Ogunbote, has expressed a strong desire for his team to return to their home ground at the New Jos Stadium following their temporary relocation to Lafia due to security concerns.
Speaking after his side’s narrow defeat to Rivers United in Port Harcourt, Ogunbote described the result as a minor setback rather than a defining moment in their campaign.
“It’s a temporary setback, not a decider,” Ogunbote said. “All we need is to return to winning ways. We didn’t play to our full potential, and that affected the outcome of the game.”
Plateau United have been forced to play home matches in Lafia after unrest around Jos raised safety concerns. However, the experienced tactician insists the situation should not have warranted a prolonged displacement.
“We were not banished without reason, but it was due to security unrest. We had even trained on our home ground before that game, but unfortunately, there was an incident. I believe everything is normal now, and we are hopeful of returning soon,” he explained.
Looking ahead, Ogunbote emphasized the importance of consistency as the Nigeria Premier Football League season approaches its decisive phase. He reiterated his team’s ambition to finish strongly on the table by avoiding further slip-ups.
“Our focus now is to correct our mistakes and improve. If we do that, we can still achieve a respectable finish this season,” he added.
Plateau United will now turn their attention to their next fixture against Kun Khalifat as they aim to bounce back and regain momentum after Sundays defeat in Port Harcourt.
