NPFL Matchday Six Wrap: Nasarawa United Overtake Enyimba as 3SC, Barau FC Snatch Away Win

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) delivered another weekend of drama and intrigue, with Nasarawa United climbing to the summit of the table, overtaking Enyimba while Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) and debutants Barau FC claimed valuable away victories.

At the Lafia City Stadium, Nasarawa United continued their flying start to the campaign with a commanding 2-0 triumph over Katsina United.

Last season top scorer, Anas Yusuf broke the deadlock on the stroke of halftime, before Abubakar Abdullahi doubled the lead in the 73rd minute to seal all three points.

The Solid Miners now sit proudly on 13 points from six matches, edging one point clear of defending champions Enyimba.

Head coach Mbwas Mangut was quick to temper the excitement:

“We have to remain focused. It’s not time for celebration yet because the league is a marathon and still at its infancy.”

Elsewhere, Enyimba kept their unbeaten start intact but were held to a 1-1 draw by Ikorodu City in Lagos. The People’s Elephant took the lead through Joel Ezra in the 12th minute, only for Joseph Arumala to level five minutes later with a poacher’s finish.

The fireworks continued in Bauchi, where Wikki Tourists and Rangers International shared the spoils in a 2-2 thriller. Klinshak Longbak and Jonathan Mairiga found the net for Wikki, but veteran striker Godwin Obaje stepped up with a brace to salvage a point for the Flying Antelopes, ensuring they avoided back-to-back away defeats.

The day’s most stirring comeback unfolded in Ozoro.

Hosts Warri Wolves led 3SC 1-0 thanks to Igbunu Evwierhurhoma’s strike early in the second half, but the Oluyole Warriors turned the game on its head with two goals in two minutes.

Qamar Adegoke (84’) and Adams Mustapha (86’) completed a remarkable turnaround, handing 3SC their second straight victory and easing pressure on their technical crew.

There was also history in Aba as newcomers Barau FC celebrated their first-ever NPFL victory with a dazzling 3-1 away win over Kun Khalifat.

Despite falling behind to Ebuka Nwokorie’s opener, Yahaya Ibrahim’s brace and a clinical finish from Hillary Ekawu ensured the debutants left with all three points — and their names firmly etched into NPFL folklore.

With the dust settled on Matchday Six, Nasarawa United top the standings with 13 points, trailed closely by Enyimba (12), while Niger Tornadoes and Katsina United remain in the chasing pack on nine points apiece.

The NPFL action continues midweek, as Remo Stars host Abia Warriors in one of two outstanding fixtures involving teams fresh from continental duty.
