NPFL Matchday 8 Round-Up: Violence Mars Kano Clash as Nasarawa United Stay Top, Rain Forced Rivers Utd Game to Monday

Matchday 8 of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) delivered high drama, goals, and controversy, with violence breaking out in Kano and heavy rainfall forcing a postponement in Port Harcourt.

In Kano, tempers flared after Kano Pillars were held to a 1-1 draw by Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC). Adams Mustapha rescued a point for Pillars with a stoppage-time equalizer, but chaos erupted immediately after the final whistle as angry fans and players allegedly attacked match officials and some 3SC players over perceived poor officiating.

The Nigeria Premier Football League is expected to launch an investigation into the incident.

Elsewhere, Nasarawa United maintained their impressive form and stayed top of the NPFL standings after edging Rangers International 2-1 in Lafia. Anas Yusuf scored from the spot in the 32nd minute, while John Joshua sealed the win in the 62nd minute after Wisdom Ebirim had given Rangers the lead.

In other results, Casmir Azubuike’s first-half brace earned Abia Warriors a comfortable 2-0 win over El-Kanemi Warriors, while Ikorodu City defeated Bendel Insurance 1-0 courtesy of Folarin Temitope’s early strike. Plateau United beat Barau FC 2-0 with goals from Amietimi Enewarikpemi and Vincent Temitope.

Wolves and Tornadoes shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw, as did Wikki Tourists and Kwara United. Katsina United were in ruthless form, defeating Remo Stars 3-1 at home.

Meanwhile, the fixture between Rivers United and Bayelsa United has been rescheduled to 8:00 a.m. on Monday, October 13, 2025, due to heavy rainfall in Port Harcourt.
