NPFL Matchday 4 Results as Enyimba Go Top After Away Victory

Enyimba International Football Club of Aba climbed to the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table after recording a 2-0 away win over Bayelsa United at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa, on Sunday.

The two-time CAF Champions League winners, who endured a difficult 2024/25 campaign, showed renewed intent as Chidera Michael broke the deadlock in the 78th minute following a goalless first half.

Five minutes later, Kalu Nweke sealed the points with a composed finish to secure victory for coach Stanley Eguma’s side.

The result moved Enyimba to the summit of the standings with eight points from four matches, having won two and drawn two without a loss.

They next face Bendel Insurance at the Enyimba International Stadium on September 21, while Bayelsa United will host Nasarawa United in Yenagoa.

Elsewhere, Super Eagles forward Ahmed Musa opened his scoring account for the season as Kano Pillars defeated Enugu Rangers 1-0 at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

The former CSKA Moscow and Leicester City winger struck in the 65th minute after teammate Rabiu Ali had missed a penalty earlier in the game.

The result lifted Pillars out of the relegation zone and gave them their first win of the season.

Plateau United, Kun Khalifat, and Ikorodu City also celebrated their first victories of the campaign. Plateau United stunned defending champions Remo Stars 2-0, while newly promoted Kun Khalifat secured an emphatic 3-1 win over El-Kanemi Warriors.

In Lagos, Ikorodu City edged Barau FC 2-0 to claim a morale-boosting triumph.

However, it was a disappointing outing for Shooting Stars (3SC), who suffered a 1-0 defeat to Rivers United at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.

The loss leaves 3SC bottom of the table with just two points from four matches, piling pressure on the coaching staff.

Abia Warriors continued their strong start by defeating Katsina United 1-0 in Umuahia, while Nasarawa United edged Wikki Tourists 1-0 to maintain momentum.

Kwara United and Warri Wolves played out a goalless draw in Uzoro in a match defined by defensive resilience.

With top teams rediscovering form, newcomers making statements, and early struggles for others, the NPFL season is shaping up to be fiercely competitive and unpredictable.
