The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has officially cleared goalkeeper Sunday Adewale Adeyinka of all allegations of betting involvement, bringing an end to weeks of uncertainty surrounding his career.
In an official communication signed by NPFL Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, the league body announced that the suspension placed on Adeyinka’s registration has been lifted with immediate effect.
This means the goalkeeper is now free to pursue new opportunities and register with any club of his choice ahead of the forthcoming season.
Adeyinka had earlier been suspended after being linked with an alleged betting scandal, prompting the NPFL to open an inquest into the matter.
The 26-year-old, who plies his trade in the Nigerian domestic league, was invited to appear before the inquest panel to respond to the allegations.
According to the NPFL, the shot-stopper cooperated fully with investigators and provided valuable clarity during the proceedings.
“The suspension placed on your registration in the NPFL has been lifted. You are free to register for any club of your choice,” the NPFL letter to Adeyinka read in part.
The letter further emphasized that while investigations into other individuals will continue, Adeyinka’s clearance was granted to ensure fairness and prevent his career from being unduly jeopardized.
This development comes as a huge relief to Adeyinka, who has built a reputation as one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the NPFL.
Known for his sharp reflexes, leadership, and commanding presence in the box, his availability on the transfer market is expected to attract interest from top NPFL clubs and potentially foreign sides as Shooting Stars Sports Club made him their number one target before the ban was pronouncement.
For Adeyinka, the clearance marks a fresh start and an opportunity to put behind the controversies of the past weeks.
With the new NPFL season in progress, the goalkeeper will now focus on securing a new club or completing is proposed deal with Shooting Stars Sports Club which got halted due to the ban and proving his quality once again on the pitch.
