NPFL – Kwara United and Shooting Stars Sports Club Battle to a One-All Draw, Coach Dogo Expresses Disappointment

Kwara United Football Club forces a draw against 10-man Shooting Stars Sports Club in a disappointing match at Ilorin.

Kwara United Football Club, in their second home game this season, clashed with Shooting Stars Sports Club ( 3SC) in a one-all draw on Sunday, November 12, 2023.

The match, part of the 2023-2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Matchday 8, took place at the Main Bowl of the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin.

Starting on a promising note, Kwara United earned a penalty in the 11th minute after a 3SC defender handled the ball in the box.

However, Samuel Ayanrinde failed to convert the spot kick, affecting his performance. He was substituted for Ovoke Bernard in the 34th minute.

Shooting Stars Sports Club scored in the 40th minute through Malomo Taofeek, following Abdullahi Lawal’s free kick that hit the crossbar.

Malomo Taofeek, the club’s Captain, was red-carded for dangerous play just before halftime, reducing the visitors to 10 men.

In the second half, Kwara United intensified its efforts, making strategic substitutions.

Omolaoye Abiodun, Ifeanyi Odinnega, and Godwin Oshagbemi were introduced, leading to Alao Mohammed’s equalizing goal in the final minutes, earning him the Man of the Match title.

Coach Gbenga Ogunbote of 3SC expressed delight with the gained point but lamented the careless moments.

Coach Kabit Sulaiman Dogo of Kwara United was disappointed, particularly after missing the penalty opportunity.

“The draw against Shooting Stars Sports Club was a disappointment. That wasn’t what we bargained for. Nevertheless, I believe in the team. We will keep improving.”He spoke in a post-match interview.

The Chairman of Kwara United Football Club, Kumbi Titiloye, urged players and the technical crew to improve, warning of sanctions.

This draw follows Kwara United’s earlier draw at home against Rangers International Football Club in Matchday Four.

The team, with nine points from eight games, faces Bendel Insurance in Matchday Nine at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium next weekend.
