Rivers United will return to home ground on Wednesday knowing that nothing less than a strong performance will be requiredwhen they host a confident Barau FC in a rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League Matchday 25 fixture.

The Pride of Rivers laboured to a 1–1 draw away to Enyimba FC last weekend, a result that underlined the fine margins in the title race despite widespread expectations of a tougher test in Aba.
Rivers United will once again take to the pitch in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, when Barau FC arrive at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 pm WAT.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, Rivers United Technical Manager Finidi George admitted his side faces another stern challenge but stressed his desire for a better outcome than the draw against Enyimba.
“Every game is difficult, but it’s going to be different from the Enyimba match,” Finidi said.
“We are expecting a tough game because of where Barau FC find themselves, but at the same time we want to win and keep pushing for the title.”
Wednesday’s clash is one of Rivers United’s outstanding fixtures, with victory capable of significantly boosting their title hopes as the season enters a decisive phase.
The Port Harcourt side currently sit fourth on the table with 43 points from 23 matches, aided by games in hand due to continental commitments.
Barau FC arrive in high spirits after extending their unbeaten run to seven matches.
The Kano-based side played out a goalless draw with Warri Wolves last weekend and are now 13th on the standings with 34 points, continuing a steady climb away from relegation danger.
With both teams chasing different objectives and recent history adding extra spice, a fiercely contested encounter is expected under the Port Harcourt lights.
