The most successful club in Nigerian football history, has a reputation for being a goal-scoring machine. With an impressive record of seven league titles and two CAF Champions League trophies, expectations are always high for the team. However, this season has not started as expected, and many are questioning whether the team has what it takes to maintain their dominance.
While it is only the third match of the season, it is essential to note that Enyimba has only managed to score one goal in their first three games. In their second game against Niger Tornadoes which is a 1-0 win after an earlier match day one in Kano where the team were held to a 0-0 draw against Barau FC. The lack of goals in these matches is certainly a cause for concern, and if not addressed, could have a significant impact on the team’s overall performance this season as the club target their tenth league title come end of the season.
However, in a highly competitive league like the NPFL, every point and goal counts. And with other top teams such as Remo Stars, Katsina United, and Wikki Tourist already showing their goal-scoring prowess, Enyimba cannot afford to fall behind.
There are several factors that could have contributed to Enyimba’s lack of goals in the past three matches. The team’s attack may still be finding its form, or there could be a lack of cohesion and understanding among the players. However, one thing is for sure – Enyimba needs to find a solution quickly before their goal drought becomes a significant issue.
The team’s coach, Stanley Eguma, has acknowledged the need for improvement in the team’s attack,
“Our conversion rate is low, and we are working on that aspect of our game.” With experienced players such as Stanley Dimgba, Bassey John, and Joseph Atule in their ranks, it is only a matter of time before Enyimba’s attack starts to click.
Enyimba’s next match is against Bayelsa United, and it will be an opportunity for the team to redeem themselves and show their goal-scoring capabilities as the league progresses.
While it may still be early in the season, Enyimba’s lack of goals in the first three matches cannot be ignored. As the league progresses, the team must address their goal-scoring issue and ensure that they are not left behind in the race for the continental space.
