NPFL: Enyimba Defender Odeh Targets Positive Result Against Former Club Rivers United in Portharcourt

Enyimba FC defender Paul Odeh has expressed confidence that the People’s Elephant can secure a positive result against his former club, Rivers United, when both sides clash on Sunday in Port Harcourt.

The Matchday 27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter will take place at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, with Enyimba desperate for points following a run of disappointing results.

The nine-time Nigerian champions are currently enduring a difficult campaign and sit 14th on the NPFL table with 31 points from 26 matches. Their struggles were compounded last weekend after a home defeat to Ikorodu City.

Despite Enyimba’s current position, Odeh believes the team has prepared well for the challenge against Rivers United, who are coached by former Super Eagles winger Finidi George.

“We believe that preparations so far for the upcoming fixture on Sunday have been good,” the 24-year-old attack-minded full-back told Enyimbafc.net.

“Everybody is in shape. Everybody is pushing to see how we would go to Port Harcourt and make a statement.”

Odeh also referenced the reverse fixture played earlier in the season in Aba, which ended in a goalless draw, insisting Enyimba can replicate—or better—that outcome away from home.

“The reverse fixture in Aba ended in a goalless draw. So, if they can come here and pick a draw, we can also go there and pick points. We’re optimistic that come this Sunday, we are going to get something,” he said.

Acknowledging Enyimba’s current league position, the former Nasarawa United defender stressed that the squad is united in its determination to turn things around.

“Everybody is pushing hard. Everybody is working to see that we get a good result there, and we would continue from there and work on ourselves for subsequent games because we are not in an encouraging position on the league table,” Odeh added.

“So, everybody is putting effort to make sure we change the situation on ground.”

Enyimba will be hoping that Odeh’s motivation against his former club can inspire a crucial result as they seek to revive their NPFL campaign.
