The Minna-based side produced a strong second-half display to secure all three points at the Bako Kontagora Stadium, with late goals from Abdulrasheed Shehu Dabai and Terdoo Shimagande sealing a vital win in their push for top-flight survival.
After a cagey first half, Wikki Tourists frustrated the hosts with a compact defensive setup, limiting clear-cut chances despite Tornadoes’ dominance in possession.
The visitors held firm to ensure the game remained goalless at the break.
However, a series of tactical adjustments by Majin Mohammed after halftime proved decisive.
The introduction of Rickson Mendos and Nelson Michael injected urgency into the attack, while Ahmadu Liman assumed greater control in midfield, dictating play and creating openings.
Further changes saw Joseph Godfrey replace Abdulaziz Dalhatu as Tornadoes intensified their pressure. The breakthrough eventually arrived in the 80th minute when Mendos was fouled inside the penalty area.
Dabai calmly converted from the spot to hand the hosts a deserved lead.
The victory was sealed in stoppage time as Shimagande rose highest to head home from a well-delivered ball by Liman, sparking celebrations among the home supporters.
Reflecting on the performance, Majin Mohammed credited his players for executing the game plan and responding positively to tactical tweaks.
“We thank God for the win. It was a great effort and performance from the players—they showed real desire. We struggled to find our rhythm in the first half, which led to the changes we made, and thankfully they worked,” he said.
The Tornadoes boss reiterated that the club’s primary objective remains securing their NPFL status as the season approaches its final stretch.
“Our target remains to secure our NPFL status and finish comfortably.”
The win lifts Niger Tornadoes to 11th position on the NPFL table, providing a crucial cushion in the relegation battle.
They aim to build on this momentum when they travel to face Katsina United in their next fixture.
