The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Club Owners’ Forum, in collaboration with the League Management, held an expanded meeting on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Hotel De Bentley, Abuja.
The meeting brought together club chairmen and key stakeholders in the league to deliberate on critical issues affecting Nigerian football.
Following exhaustive discussions, the Forum issued a 12-point communiqué outlining major resolutions aimed at enhancing the structure and operations of the league.
Key Resolutions:
Vote of Confidence in the NFF:
The Forum unanimously passed a vote of confidence in the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), led by Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, lauding its dedication to football development in the country.
Commendation of NPFL Leadership:
A vote of confidence was also passed on NPFL Chairman, Chief Gbenga Elegbeleye, and Chief Operating Officer, Prince Davidson Owumi, in recognition of their professionalism and effective league administration.
Support for Forum Leadership:
The leadership of the NPFL Club Owners’ Forum, headed by Chief (Dr.) Okey Kpalukwu, received similar commendation for steering the Forum’s affairs effectively.
Review of the 2024/2025 NPFL Season:
The Forum described the concluded season as one of the most organized in recent history, citing improvements in matchday coordination, fixture adherence, and operational standards.
Amendments to League Rules:
Approved reforms to the NPFL Framework and Rules include:
Enhanced life and injury insurance for players and officials.
Improved post-match conference protocols to boost media engagement.
Congratulatory Messages to Champions and CAF Representatives:
Remo Stars FC were congratulated for clinching the 2024/2025 NPFL title. Rivers United and Abia Warriors were also commended for qualifying for CAF interclub competitions. Clubs were urged to prepare thoroughly for continental engagements.
Super Eagles Recognition:
The Forum applauded the Super Eagles for winning the Unity Cup Tournament in London, calling the victory a significant morale booster for Nigerian football.
Economic Strategy and Club Funding:
Amidst economic challenges, clubs were encouraged to diversify revenue sources through sponsorships, merchandising, media rights, and other commercial ventures to ensure sustainability.
2025/2026 Season Calendar:
Stakeholders received and deliberated on the proposed NPFL calendar for the upcoming season, with a call for operational alignment to guarantee smooth execution.
Appreciation to National Sports Commission:
The Forum expressed gratitude to National Sports Commission Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, for his unwavering support for football and sports development nationwide.
11. Commendation of Club Owners and State Governments:
Acknowledgment was given to private club owners and State Governors for their steadfast backing of clubs despite economic headwinds.
12. Matchday Security:
Emphasis was placed on the need for enhanced security at match venues. State Football Associations were urged to reinforce security measures, recognizing their primary responsibility in this area.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment by all stakeholders to work collectively toward the growth, professionalism, and global competitiveness of the NPFL. Emphasis was placed on transparency, discipline, innovation, and unity as guiding principles.
