NPFL: Barau FC Hold Enyimba to Goalless Draw in Aba

Barau FC earned a valuable point on the road after holding Enyimba FC to a 0–0 draw in their Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Matchday 21 encounter played in Aba on Sunday.

The visitors showed confidence from the opening exchanges and nearly made a dream start in the 2nd minute when Ebuka Nwokorie unleashed a powerful strike from outside the box. However, Enyimba’s defense reacted quickly to clear the effort for a corner, denying Barau FC an early breakthrough.

The contest remained tightly balanced through the first half, with both sides battling for control in midfield but struggling to create clear-cut chances in front of goal. Enyimba enjoyed spells of possession, while Barau FC stayed compact and disciplined, looking to hit on transitions.

In the second half, both coaches turned to their benches in search of inspiration. Barau FC made a double substitution in the 67th minute, introducing Hillary Ekawu and Henry Ezeonye in place of Antony Sunday and Stanley Oganbor to inject fresh energy.

Enyimba responded almost immediately, bringing on Wonah Williams and John Bassey for Eddiong Ezekiel and Mujeed Adekunle in the 68th minute.

Despite the changes, clear chances remained scarce as both defenses stood firm. Enyimba made further late adjustments in the 89th minute, with Emeka Onyema and Ndedi Henry replacing Salman Abubakar and Joel Ezra, but the hosts were unable to break the resistance of a well-organised Barau FC side.

At full-time, the goalless stalemate reflected a hard-fought encounter, with Barau FC leaving Aba satisfied with a clean sheet and a point against one of the league’s most experienced sides.

The result continues a positive run for Barau FC, who came into the match on the back of a 2–1 home victory over Niger Tornadoes, while Enyimba were looking to respond after a 3–0 defeat to Shooting Stars in Ibadan.

Barau FC will now turn their attention to building on this momentum as the second stanza of the NPFL season progresses.
