NPFL Ban From Staging Matches At MKO Abiola Stadium

The Minister For Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare has temporarily ordered the banning of the Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL) from staging league matches at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

The order was issued after Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro complained about the poor condition of the pitch following Sunday’s training session.

Recall that the stadium has been home to the NPFL side, Kano Pillars following the League Management Company order banishing them to Abuja as a result of fans’ disturbance in their matchday 30 home win against Katsina United.

Super Eagles had their training on the practice pitch of the stadium on Monday to allow groundsmen to put the main pitch in proper shape before Thursday’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Leone Stars of Sierra.

An official of the sports ministry Mohammed Manga told NAN that the pitch will only be used for national team football matches from now on.

“The pitch can be used only for matches involving the national teams.

“We have to keep the stadium’s main pitch in good shape for use for international matches involving the national teams,” he said.
